Five police officers were charged with "forgery or use of forgery" for the 2017 case of a young man who was burned to the hands in a van by Mantes-La-Jolie in Yvelines. Friday's statement from Versailles said that five of them had been asked for a trial.
They are accused of fabricating a false report, and making false statements regarding an arrest made in November 2017.
Involuntary injuries resulting from total incapacity of work (ITT), were also indicted. However, the prosecution requested dismissal of the proceedings and only asked for the referral of the criminal court for "false or use of forgery". It will be up the investigating judge to decide whether or not to refer them to trial.
Their client, who was on an ITT for over three months, was arrested on November 7. He has had two skin grafts since then. He had his hands tied to a heater in the van carrying him to the station. This caused him second- and third-degree burns. The lawyers representing the officers of police declined to comment.
