Access to the emergency department must be controlled during this time by calling center 15 who will "take charge of the call" and direct the patient to the appropriate care. Management asks that you do not show up at the hospital unassisted.
The establishment made the news public a few hours prior to the implementation of the measure without naming the reasons. Mathieu Labat (director of the hospital) explained this decision to us by phone: "We are adapting due to a shortage of medical staff in our service. At the very last minute, we learned of the departure of a temporary doctor due to health reasons.
He confirms that this measure is a "just-in-time" operation for emergencies. We are constantly under pressure from the medical staff. One third of the positions have been filled, and the remaining two thirds are occupied by temporary workers. He said that this was the first time such a restriction had ever been implemented in Bergerac.
Monday, July 4, was the same day that Sarlat's emergency team used the same procedure. The Bergerac hospital director insists that "our goal isn't for this to become a permanent arrangement."
