Kalashnikov-wielding passenger: The parents of the driver who was killed by a police officer file an investigation

We learned Friday that the parents of the victim, a 24-year-old Grenoble man, will file a complaint. The prosecution had taken away the police custody.

According to Le Dauphine Libere the victim was known for his acts of armed theft. He was riding a scooter and had a passenger with him. The police opened fire in the city's center shortly after 18 hours.

The police officer was heard in context of police custody. He came out of that night's police custody. On Friday, Boris Duffau (deputy public prosecutor) said that the policeman "indicated" having used his weapon towards the two scooter users. One of them was pointing him with a Kalashnikov-type rifle.

The representative for the prosecution stated that "other witnesses were heard", including two of his coworkers who confirmed the presence a long weapon. According to the same source, a loaded Kalashnikov-type weapon and a bulletproof vest was found on the spot. The scooter rider fled. It was quickly determined that the scooter passenger had no terrorist intent.

An autopsy on the 24-year-old victim revealed that he had suffered one fatal gunshot wound. His parents will file a formal complaint, but Me Emmanuel Decombard, their lawyer, said that the qualifications of voluntary or involuntary homicide are still to be determined.

Two investigations were opened. The first was for attempted murder of a public official, entrusted by the Grenoble judicial service. The second was for "deadly blows", entrusted the IGPN.

A separate investigation was opened by the prosecution into shootings that took place in another part of the city on the same night. The leg injury to a 23-year old man resulted in him being hospitalized. The deputy prosecutor stated that "at this stage, there is no connection" between the cases.
