Firefighters from the Dordogne départemental corps were deployed to the South-East as reinforcements after the large forest fires in Gard (in the South-East), on the night of July 7th through Friday, July 8. .
According to firefighters, the massive fire has already destroyed more than 600 hectares worth of vegetation in the north Gard since Thursday night. With 700 men and women present, they prepare for another day.
Among them, a Forest Fire Intervention Group (Giff) was formed by 19 firefighters from rescue centers from all over Perigord, aboard six vehicles: Perigueux, Thiviers, Mareuil, Nontron, Cubjac, Sarlat, Terrasson, Saint-Aulaye, Mussidan, Saint-Meard-de-Gurcon and Saint Astier.
They will need to integrate a column of forest fires with other departments in South-West Zone. Initial plans call for the mission to last five days.
