In France, Netflix has more than 10,000,000 paying subscribers, up from 6.7 million in 2020. This was announced by Ted Sarandos, the company's co-CEO. He spoke to Sunday newspaper and lifted the veil on the data for the first times in two years.
The leader of the American giant lost his first loss this year, despite a long period in which it had experienced uninterrupted growth.
France has more than 10,000,000 households today (instead of the 6.7 in 2020). He said that a household can have five accounts. The number of subscribers (users), is therefore higher.
When Ted Sarandos was asked about his attendance at Monday's "Choose France” summit, which was established by Emmanuel Macron. He stated that Netflix is a "great exporter" of French culture, illustrated by "planetary successes" such as "Lupin" and "Without respite" with Franck Gastambide.
Although he signed a January deal on the media timeline that allows Netflix to release films up to 15 months after theatrical release (up from 36 months prior), his boss still finds this "unsustainable model" and prefers a period of "a few more weeks".
The manager also mentioned that the company was working on the "global launch" of a cheaper offer with advertising, which "date has yet to be fixed", as well as a "new billing system" for password sharing.
When asked about potential investments in TV sports rights rights, he said that it wasn't in the "interests of the platform" because of the "explosion in these rights".
