Ten tips to help you save money on your vacation

Gas prices have risen to new records and it is now more expensive to drive on vacation. There is no magic bullet that will stop inflation from spiraling, but there are some ways to limit the pain. These are ten.

This is the most common piece of advice. Ademe recalls that driving at 120 km/h (rather than 130) will reduce fuel consumption and give you an additional 18-minute travel time.

Your vehicle will consume more fuel if it is full. Ademe recommends that you avoid "roof boxes galleries and bicycle racks", as they can cause an overconsumption between 10 to 20%.

Make sure that your tires are properly inflated before you hit the road. Ademe recalls that underinflation can lead to dangerous driving conditions and increase consumption by as much as 3% to 6 percent.

It is hard to live without air conditioning during high heat. According to Ademe, however, air conditioning can increase fuel consumption by up to 7%.

Tolls on motorways can be costly. The national road is an option that's much cheaper if you don't need to be in a rush.

Fuel consumption is increased by repeatedly accelerating and then braking. Applications like Waze are a great way to avoid traffic jams.

It is much better to prepare your food at home before you leave than buying a sandwich or drink at a rest area on the motorway. You won't likely lose on the exchange.

Do your research before you leave for the airport. Determine when you will need fuel. Then, thanks to the site prix-carburants.gouv.fr or an application like Essence

Autoroute-eco.fr allows you to take advantage of price variations for motorway tolls. You pay less if you take certain exits, and then return to the motorway immediately. For example, if you take a Bordeaux-Le Perthus route via Toulouse, it is possible to cut your bill by departing a dozen times. This saves 13.8%. If you have the patience and time, this is something to be considered.

It is obvious that respecting speed limits is an insurance policy to avoid a penalty of at least 45 to68 euros and a withdrawal (minimum of) of one point on your license.
