Two months after Emmanuel Macron's reelection, the National Commission for the Control of the Electoral Campaigns (CNCCEP), published Friday its report on the "satisfactory 2022 campaign". It noted some improvements that could be made for 2027.
"In consideration of the interests it is responsible", CNCCEP deemed that the 2022 election campaign took place "in completely satisfactory circumstances" and that no other event, not even the Covid-19 pandemic, had been able "get in the way".
The CNCCEP is responsible for ensuring fairness among candidates and proper application of electoral rules. In March, for example, it prohibited Emmanuel Macron from using his @EmmanuelMacron presidential Twitter account to promote his candidacy. The CNCCEP made several suggestions to improve the running of French presidential campaigns.
There are several proposals that would allow "to move the date by which candidates must submit their first round election materials to Commission for approval", so voters "have these documents with enough time to get acquainted with them." for them to cast their votes.
According to the CNCCEP, in April, "large numbers of voters" were late receiving the envelope with the faith professions. This happened "sometimes just hours before the first round". This is why she wants voters to have these documents at least a week prior to the first ballot.
The CNCCEP believes it is essential to continue the publication of faith professions by post, in light of the large French population that does not have easy access to digital communication. She suggests that the government create a "solution for those who have access to digital consultation"
